Author Guidelines

ALFAMath: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika is an open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Yayasan Pendidikan Intan Cendekia in collaboration with the Indonesian Mathematical Society (IndoMS) Region Bali–NTB–NTT.

ALFAMath provides an academic platform for researchers, lecturers, teachers, graduate students, education practitioners, and policymakers from Indonesia and other countries to disseminate high-quality research in mathematics education.

The journal focuses on various areas of mathematics education, including mathematics teaching and learning, mathematical thinking and abilities, curriculum and instructional design, assessment and evaluation in mathematics education, educational technology, ethnomathematics, mathematics teacher education, inclusive mathematics education, mathematical literacy and numeracy, and other relevant contemporary issues in mathematics education across educational levels.

ALFAMath accepts the following types of manuscripts:

1. Original empirical research articles;
2. Design and development research in mathematics education;
3. Systematic literature reviews; and
4. Meta-analyses.

Systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses must employ rigorous, transparent, and reproducible methods and demonstrate substantial theoretical, methodological, or practical contributions to mathematics education. Narrative reviews that merely summarize previous studies without a transparent review methodology will not be considered for publication.

Design and development studies must provide a clear theoretical foundation, systematic development procedures, evidence of validation and implementation, and meaningful contributions beyond merely reporting product validity, practicality, or participant satisfaction.

All submitted manuscripts must meet the standards of scientific rigor, originality, academic integrity, and relevance to the journal’s focus and scope. Manuscripts must not have been previously published and must not be under consideration by another journal, conference proceeding, or publisher.

Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English. Authors must select and use the appropriate official ALFAMath template:

• ALFAMath Indonesian Manuscript Template for manuscripts written in Indonesian; or
• ALFAMath English Manuscript Template for manuscripts written in English.

Authors must use one language consistently throughout the manuscript. Indonesian and English section headings must not be combined within the same manuscript.

Manuscripts must be prepared using the official ALFAMath template and submitted as a Microsoft Word document in .doc or .docx format.

Detailed technical requirements regarding page layout, fonts, headings, spacing, tables, figures, equations, and reference formatting are provided in the selected manuscript template.

Title

The title must be concise, clear, informative, and accurately reflect the main problem addressed in the manuscript. It must not create ambiguous interpretations, contain uncommon abbreviations, or exceed 15 words.

The title must be written in Palatino Linotype, 14 pt, bold, using sentence case.

Author Names and Affiliations

Author names must be written in full without academic degrees, professional titles, or official positions. Author names must be written in Palatino Linotype, 11 pt, bold.

Each author must provide a complete affiliation consisting of the department, study program, faculty or academic unit, institution, and country. Affiliations must be written in Palatino Linotype, 10 pt, using normal formatting.

Abstract

The abstract must contain 150–250 words and must be written in the same language as the manuscript:

• Manuscripts written in Indonesian must include an abstract in Indonesian.
• Manuscripts written in English must include an abstract in English.

The abstract must be written in Palatino Linotype, 10 pt, single-spaced, as one paragraph in a single-column format.

The abstract must briefly present:

1. The research problem or background;
2. The objective of the study;
3. The research method;
4. The principal findings; and
5. The main conclusion, implication, or significance of the study.

The abstract must not contain citations, tables, figures, equations, or uncommon abbreviations.

Keywords

Authors must provide three to five keywords that accurately represent the principal concepts of the manuscript. Keywords must be separated by semicolons.

Example:
Keywords: educational technology; formative assessment; learning innovation; teacher education

INTRODUCTION (11 pt normal)

The introduction must contain, in sequence, the general background, the state of the art as the basis for establishing the scientific novelty of the article, statements of scientific novelty, and research problems or hypotheses.

At the end of the introduction, the objective of the article must be clearly stated.

In scientific article writing, a separate literature review section, as commonly presented in research reports, is not required. Instead, relevant literature should be integrated into the state-of-the-art discussion to demonstrate the scientific novelty of the article.

METHOD (11 pt normal)

The research procedure and flow must be presented systematically in this section and accompanied by appropriate captions where necessary.

Figure captions placed as part of the figure title are considered separate from the image itself.

The methods used to conduct the study must be described clearly and comprehensively in this section.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION (11 pt normal)

The results and discussion section must present research findings and their scientific interpretation. The findings obtained from the research must be supported by adequate data.

Scientific findings should not merely present research data but must be explained comprehensively, including:

1. The scientific findings obtained;
2. The reasons why these findings occurred; and
3. The explanation of observed trends or variable patterns.

All findings must be explained scientifically rather than descriptively only and, when necessary, supported by relevant scientific evidence or theoretical foundations.

The research results should also be compared with previous studies addressing similar topics. The results and discussion must adequately address the research objectives stated in the introduction.

Tables

Tables must be numbered consecutively according to their order of appearance in the manuscript.

The table number and title must be placed above the table and written in Palatino Linotype, 10 pt, using normal formatting.

Tables must not contain vertical lines. Horizontal lines should be limited to those necessary for clarity and readability.

Every table must be referred to and explained in the main text.

Figures

Figures must be numbered consecutively according to their order of appearance in the manuscript.

Figure captions must be placed below the figure and written in Palatino Linotype, 10 pt, using normal formatting.

Figures must have sufficient resolution, and all text, labels, and symbols must be clearly visible and legible.

Every figure must be referred to and explained in the main text.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce or adapt copyrighted tables, figures, photographs, research instruments, or other third-party materials.

CONCLUSION (11 pt normal)

The conclusion must provide answers to the research hypothesis and/or objectives based on the scientific findings obtained.

The conclusion should not simply repeat the results and discussion but should summarize the main findings in accordance with the stated objectives or hypotheses.

LIMITATION (11 pt normal)

The limitation of a study refers to the constraints, shortcomings, or weaknesses that may affect the scope, methodology, or overall findings of the research.

These limitations may arise from various factors and may influence the research design, implementation, data analysis, and conclusions.

RECOMMENDATION (11 pt normal)

The recommendation section should describe future actions or directions related to further research development.

Barriers or problems that may influence the research results may also be presented in this section.

Author Contributions (9 pt normal)

Authors must declare their individual contributions or use the following statement:

"The authors have sufficiently contributed to the study and have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript."

Funding (9 pt normal)

Please provide one of the following statements:

"This research received no external funding."

or

"This research was funded by NAME OF FUNDER, grant number XXX. The APC was funded by XXX."

Acknowledgment (9 pt normal)

This section may be used to acknowledge support that is not covered under the author contribution or funding sections.

This may include administrative and technical support or in-kind contributions, such as materials used for experiments.

Conflict of Interest (9 pt normal)

Authors must declare any conflicts of interest or use the following statement:

"The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Authors must identify and declare any personal circumstances or interests that may be perceived as inappropriately influencing the representation or interpretation of the reported research results.

Any role of funders in the design of the study, collection, analysis, or interpretation of data; writing of the manuscript; or decision to publish the results must be declared in this section.

If there is no role of funders, please state:

"The funders had no role in the design of the study; collection, analysis, or interpretation of data; writing of the manuscript; or decision to publish the results."

REFERENCES (11 pt normal)

All references cited in the article text must be listed in the References section.

The reference list must contain references from primary sources (scientific journals) comprising at least 80% of the total references and published within the last 5 years.

Each article must contain at least 25–30 references.

Citation and reference formatting must use reference management software such as Mendeley, EndNote, Zotero, or other similar applications.

References should be prepared using reference management applications such as Mendeley, EndNote, Zotero, or other similar tools.

The reference format used by ALFAMath follows the APA (American Psychological Association) style.
